Congress vows to fight for #JusticeforSumedha, Demands Accountability from GHMC

Hyderabad, September 21: The parents of Sumedha Kapuria, the twelve-year-old girl, who lost her life after falling into an open nala in Malkajgiri area, filed a complaint against Minister for Urban Development KT Rama Rao, GHMC Mayor, Zonal Commissioner, local corporator and others responsible, stressing that it was due to GHMC's negligence and incompetence that their daughter died. AICC spokesperson Dasoju Shravan led Sumedha's parents Abhijit and Sukanya and stood by their side, as the bereaved parents filed the complaint at Neredmet Police Station.

"We have been residing in Deendayal Nagar, Malkajgiri locality for more than two years and many a time local residents had  complained about open nalas in the past. Colony residents gave representations to Municipal Affairs Minister KTR, GHMC Mayor, local corporator to solve the problem of open nalas. But no one has responded. If those in responsible positions had acted earlier, our daughter would have been saved today. We feel that no parent should suffer like us in the future. No child should again face the same fate. Therefore demanding justice for Sumedha, we have filed a complaint against the Municipal Affairs Minister and others who are decision makers," said Sukanya Kapuria, after filing the complaint at Neredmet Police Station.

AICC spokesperson Dasoju Shravan, Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav, Hyderabad parliament segment Congress in-charge Feroz Khan and others were by the side of Sumedha's parents on the occasion.

Speaking after filing the complaint at Neredmet Police Station, Congress senior leader Dasoju Shravan thundered, "It is very sad to see that a young girl's life lost due to the utter negligence of GHMC. Municipal Affairs Minister KT Rama Rao who says that TRS government has developed Hyderabad city by spending Rs 60,000 crore did not even visit the girl's family and did not even inquire about the incident. Such is the callousness of this TRS administration. There is no accountability in this government. TRS leaders are busy in corruption and take no responsibility. Congress party demands accountability from the government. Congress party appreciates the determination of Sumedha's parents. The Congress party will stand by them and fight for justice for Sumedha."

"Police have conveniently filed a missing case in case of Sumedha's death, that too against an Assistant Engineer (AE) and Divisional Engineer (DE). This is nothing but shielding those in power and making lower rung employees scapegoats. Municipal Minister KTR, Hyderabad mayor, zonal commissioner, local corporator are responsible for the death of Sumedha. We will launch a mass campaign for achieving 'JusticeforSumedha' and fight till guilty are punished," vowed Dasoju Shravan, speaking on the occasion.

TPCC delegation led by Dasoju Shravan visits Sumedha's family, Demands Rs One Crore ex-gratia for Sumedha's family

  • Sumedha's death is not an accident but murder by reckless TRS Government, Case should be booked on Municipal Administration Minister KTR: Dasoju Shrava

  • TPCC delegation led by Dasoju Shravan visits Sumedha's family, Demands Rs One Crore ex-gratia for Sumedha's family
  • Dasoju Shravan lambasts Talasani Srinivas Yadav for insensitive comments

Hyderabad, September 20: Congress senior leader, AICC spokesperson Dasoju Shravan fired on Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao saying that the death of twelve-year-old Sumedha is not an accident but a murder by incompetent TRS government. Stressing that it was GHMC's utter negligence which took away the life of a young girl, Dasoju Shravan demanded for booking murder case against Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and local Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

TPCC delegation led by Dr Dasoju Shravan visited Sumedha's family at Deendayal Nagar in Malkajgiri on Sunday. After offering condolences to the bereaved parents Sukanya and Abhijeet, Congress leaders toured in the area, took stock of the open nalas and inquired about the events leading to Sumedha's death.

"It is extremely sad to know that a young girl with a bright future lost her life by falling into an open nala due to the negligence of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Is it not the minimum duty of GHMC to cover nalas or place fencing around open nalas? What is the GHMC Mayor doing? Where is the GHMC Commissioner? Isn't this visible to Municipal Administration Minister KTR, who boasts that the TRS government has spent Rs 60,000 Crore for Hyderabad's development? Where did all that money go? The death of Sumedha is not an accident but murder by reckless TRS Government and GHMC. Case should be booked on Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, local Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav," fired Dasoju Shravan, speaking after meeting Sumedha's parents.

Speaking on the occasion, Dasoju Shravan lambasted Animal Husbandry Minister, hailing from Greater Hyderabad region,  Talasani Srinivas Yadav for making insensitive comments. "Speaking after Sumedha's death Talasani Srinivas Yadav commented 'will not water overflow if rain comes?' Even a small kid knows that water overflows during the rainy season. We do not need a Minister to say this. This is nothing but arrogance of power. Talasani has lost his mind. Instead of making insensitive comments and causing further pain to bereaved parents, he should focus on improving basic amenities in the Greater Hyderabad area as a local minister," said Dasoju Shravan.

"Hyderabad is turning into a lake even after ten minutes of rain. People are unable to come out in the rainy season. People are losing lives by falling in open nalas, manholes. Overflowing nalas, flooding of residential areas and roads, traffic congestion have become regular features. Moreover the property tax and other charges collected in GHMC are higher than other cities. Where is all this money going? Is it spent on developing Hyderabad or being usurped by TRS leaders?" questioned Dasoju Shravan.

Making the TRS Government and GHMC responsible for Sumedha's death, Dr Dasoju Shravan demanded Rs one crore ex-gratia for her family.

"TRS Government should pay Rs One Crore ex-gratia to Sumedha's family. Not just Sumedha's family but many households in the GHMC area have suffered property damages due to recent rains. GHMC officials should visit all the affected areas and pay compensation to the affected people. Congress party will soon take up a citywide survey to assess the damage due to rains and launch a mass agitation against the reckless TRS Government," stressed Dasoju Shravan.

Dasoju Shravan said that Sumedha's parents have expressed willingness to take up a legal battle against the government, to avoid such unfortunate incidents in the future and assured the Congress party's support to them.

TPCC leader and Hyderabad parliament segment in-charge Feroz Khan, Malkajgiri Congress in-charge N Sridhar and others accompanied Dr Dasoju Shravan on the occasion.
